Memorial Day Outing

Since we had two high-maintenance, somewhat sick children, we decided to take them out for the day. If we were going to spend all day giving all our attention to them, we might as well do something fun!

We took, as Elijah will happily tell you, the green line to the blue line to enjoy the beach. Elijah was excited to ride on two electric trains.

We walked from the station to the beach to play for a bit.

Long Beach Harbor has a little aquabus that will take you across the harbor for a dollar.

Elijah was thrilled to go on his first boat ride!

We stopped for food before taking a bus (even more transportation fun!) back to the train station.

Josiah thought the day was great, too, because he spent the whole time close to mommy in his wrap.

We made it!

Josiah turned one month old yesterday and the school year ended! Only grading 17 final essays and submitting grades are left for me. Hurray!

It's been quite a month! At one month, Josiah has gone to church, a birthday party, a church art event, my first graders' recital, a curriculum planning meeting, four days of first grade (spent mostly in grandma's and Aunt Elizabeth's arms), hung out alternately with daddy, grandpa, and dear friends whilst I taught my college students, and an uncle's graduation! June's looking at little quieter. I am so thankful for the help of family and friends--I've hardly cooked or cleaned all month.

At 6 days, Josiah was 8lbs. 6 oz and 23 inches. At 18 days, he was 10 lbs. 8oz. He's now around 13 lbs. He's been working hard at acquiring a second chin and fat rolls. Needless to say, he's a champion nurser!

Josiah loves to be swaddled and held. He's a squeaky little fellow; if you shift him when he's sleeping, he lets out a series of squeaks and grunts. He's content most of the time--particularly when nestled in someone's arms or the sling--and generally easy to soothe when he cries.

The pictures are deceptive in that this little guy would really rather nap in someone's arms than anywhere else. Please note the books nestled next to Josiah; Elijah thinks that since books are essential to his naptime, surely they are for Josiah's, too! He also likes to give Josiah a book when he fusses.

Elijah was excited to help me give Josiah his bath. Josiah liked it until he started getting cold.

At 10 days now, Josiah continues to spend most of his days sleeping and eating. He's a sweet little snuggler!
